The CS493xx is a family of multichannel audio decoders that continue leadership in audio decoding for the DVD, broadcast and receiver markets. The family offers parts tailored for each of these distinct market segments.

For DVD, parts are offered to support Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic II, MPEG Multichannel, DTS Digital Surround, DTS-ES and AAC.

For receivers, parts are offered to support Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic II, MPEG Multichannel, DTS Digital Surround, DTS-ES, AAC and various virtualizers and PCM (pulse code modulation) enhancement algorithms such as HDCD®, DTS Neo:6® and SRS Circle Surround® I/II.

For the broadcast market, parts are offered to support Dolby Digital, AAC, MPEG-1 (Layers 1, 2 and 3) and MPEG-2 (Layers 2 and 3).

In addition to this decoder family, Cirrus Logic also provides DSP firmware and high-resolution data converters.


  • CS4931X: broadcast sub-family
    • Elementary stream (PES/ES) layer decode for Dolby® Digital and AAC™
    • MPEG-1 (Layers 1-3) stereo, MPEG-2 (Layers 2, 3)
  • CS4932X: A/V receiver sub-family
    • Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic® IIx
    • DTS® and DTS-ES™ decoding with integrated DTS tables
    • Surround Sound (Cirrus Original Sound)
    • MPEG-2, AAC, MPEG Multichannel and MP3 (MPEG-1, Layer 3)
  • CS49330: general-purpose audio DSP
    • Post-processing for A/V receivers, televisions and car audio
  • Other features include the following:
    • 8-channel output, including dual-zone output capability
    • Dynamic channel remapping
    • Supports up to 192 kHz at 24-bit throughputs
    • SRAM interface for increased delay and buffer capability
    • Double-precision bass manager
    • Enhanced system functionality via firmware upgrades
  • Package: 44-pin PLCC; lead-free assembly
