Founded in 1984, Cirrus Logic is a premier supplier of high-precision analog and digital signal processing components for audio and industrial markets. Cirrus Logic excels at developing complex chip designs where feature integration and innovation is a premium. Cirrus Logic has more than 900 patents that are key to our more than 600 products serving more than 2,500 end customers globally.
Our products are used in a wide array of consumer applications, including audio/video receivers, portable media players, DVD players and recorders, complete home theater systems, set-top boxes, gaming devices, sound cards and digital TVs. Applications for products within professional markets include digital mixing consoles, multitrack digital recorders and effects processors. Applications for products within automotive markets include amplifiers, satellite radio systems and multispeaker car audio systems.
Our analog and mixed-signal audio converters enjoy a wide-ranging customer base, featuring such leading companies as Apple, Creative, Denon, Digi Design, Harman Kardon, Korg, Mackie, Marantz, Onkyo, Panasonic, Philips, Pioneer, Sony, Technics and Yamaha. Many of these products, like the CS4373 Delta Sigma DAC and the CS5378 single-channel decimation filter, provide the “building blocks” for sensor-based instrumentation, such as the hydrophone and geophone arrays that are used by exploration companies to find new sources of energy in land and marine environments. Other products, like the CS5466 power meter IC, provide complete subsystems in a single chip including amplification, analog-to-digital conversion, and digital signal processing.
We also provide a wide variety of 32-bit ARM7- and ARM9-based embedded processor technologies for consumer and industrial markets that provide customers unique 32-bit SOC solutions with a wide array of price-performance-integration points for industrial applications. These embedded processors support such popular third-party software as Linux and WinCE.Net™.
We have a wide-ranging customer base including ABB, Actaris, IO, Mettler-Toledo, National Instruments, Rockwell Automation and Schlumberger. In 2008, Cirrus Logic’s CS5XXX family of industrial A/D converters was a finalist in the analog IC category of EDN Magazine’s annual Innovations Awards. Also, the CS4525 digital amplifer was a finalist among analog ICs in EE Times’ Annual Creative in Electronics (ACE) Awards.
In 2007, Cirrus Logic acquired Tucson, Ariz.-based Apex Microtechnology for $42 million. Founded in 1980, Apex Microtechnology is a leading innovator of integrated circuits, hybrids and modules used in a wide range of industrial and aerospace applications that require high-power precision analog products, such as PWM and power amplifiers. These precision amplifiers are used for driving motors, piezo electrics, programmable power supplies and other devices requiring high power and precision control.
In 2007, Cirrus Logic Fellow John Melanson joined an elite group of innovators when he passed the threshold of achieving 100 patents.
In 2006, Cirrus Logic’s CS3003 op amp IC was named to EDN Magazine’s list of Hot 100 Products. In 2005, Cirrus Logic’s CS495XX family of audio digital signal processors (DSPs) also received this award.
In 2005, Cirrus Logic shipped more than 175 million audio ICs.
In 2004, Cirrus Logic’s CobraNet Silicon Series and Intelligent Room Calibration™ audio software garnered honoree awards from the Consumer Electronics Association’s Innovations 2005 Design and Engineering Awards Program.
In 2004, Cirrus Logic Fellow John Melanson received an Academy Award for his contributions to the field of digital sound editing in motion pictures.
Cirrus Logic was named the global market leader in audio ICs for the fourth consecutive year in 2003 by Forward Concepts, a leading market research firm.
